Erin Smith, Adrianna Zeman Sweep SLIAC Softball Honors

EUREKA – Eureka's Erin Smith (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) and Adrianna Zeman (La Salle, Ill./La Salle-Peru) have swept the final St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly softball honors of the spring.

For the fourth time in her career, Smith is the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week, and for the first time in her career, Zeman is the SLIAC Hitter of the Week.

Smith, a senior, recorded a .76 ERA in two starts and four total appearances at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic at Myrtle Beach last week.

She logged 18 1/3 innings while allowing just two earned runs, striking out eight and batters and conceding just one walk. In a 5-0 win over Lycoming, she recorded a complete-game shutout, allowing zero runs on seven hits and zero walks and notching three strikeouts. She recorded a .55 ERA in 25 1/3 innings during the Red Devils' trip.

Zeman, a junior, was the Red Devils' hottest bat during five wins last week and an 8-2 showing at the tournament.

She batted .522 while driving in seven runs and scoring eight times. She contributed a hit in six of the Red Devils' seven games and had more than one twice, including a 4-for-5 performance with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored in a 16-9 win over Dean. She went 12-of-23 at the plate on the week, recording a .577 on-base percentage.

On Monday, after considerable consideration, the President's Council of the SLIAC voted to effectively cancel all spring athletic competitions and championships for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
