MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. —The day after the Eureka softball team outscored its opponents 26-0, the Red Devils couldn't scratch one across on Tuesday.

Rhode Island College kept the Red Devils off the board and handed them 2-0 loss at Myrtle Beach, moving the team to 5-1 on the season.

The Anchorwomen held EC scoreless on four hits and two walks, and managed to take advantage of a pair of untimely errors.

With a runner on third in the top of the third inning, Rhode Island's Marissa Cushman reached on an error that allowed the first run to score.

Two innings later, with two runners in scoring position, Cushman came up to bat and the same thing happened: An EC error that allowed her to reach and another to score.

The Red Devils got runners on in every inning except for one, but each time ended up leaving at least one on base. They left two on in the bottom of the third and fifth, right after Rhode Island managed to strike.

Raelyn Payne (Lexington, Ill./Lexington), Sydney Shubert (Canton, Ill./Canton), Adrianna Zeman (La Salle, Ill./La Salle-Peru) and Klaire Wilmot (La Salle, Ill./La Salle-Peru) were responsible for Eureka's hits on the day. Payne stole two bases, while Wilmot stole one and contributed a sacrifice.

Torre Koontz (Lakewood, Ill./Shelbyville) took the loss after only allowing two runs on five hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Bailey Tibbetts (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) prevented Rhode Island from inflicting any more damage, conceded zero runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The Red Devils (5-1) will look to come back strong on Thursday when they continue Fastpitch Dreams Spring Class play with a pair of games against Wells at 12:30 p.m. and Immaculata at 4:30 p.m.
