Winning streak continues as Red Devils drop Eagles

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Junior Bridget Bankes (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria [Heartland]) blasted a two-run shot in the seventh to give the Eureka College softball team the tying and go-ahead run in a 4-1 non-conference victory over Robert Morris-Springfield, Wednesday afternoon in Springfield. The Red Devils rallied the bats in the nightcap, running away with a 12-2 triumph.

Eureka improves to an impressive 24-2 on the season, including 16-straight victories. The win total for the season only trails a pair of 30-win seasons (1990 and 1996) for most wins in a single season in school history.

Senior Savanna Tapper (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) and freshman Kerrigan Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) extended Eureka's lead to 4-1 with a pair of RBI-singles following Bankes home run.

Sophomore Kali George (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) shined the circle notching her 13th victory in the circle. The right-hander scattering four hits while striking out three.

Dura and junior Lexi Litwiller (Eureka, Ill./Eureka [Lincoln Col.]) each doubled twice in game two, with Litwiller driving in three and Dura adding two.

George supplied a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBIs.

Eureka's top five batters all scored twice in the nightcap.

Junior Rachel Patterson (Tremont, Ill./Tremont [ICC]) pitched her way to her 11th victory of the season. Patterson allowed four hits, one earned run, struck out five and walked no one.

Eureka travels to Greenville on Saturday for a pair of conference contests against the Panthers. Scheduled first pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
