Cornell Downs Red Devils, 84-62

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Eureka men's basketball team dropped an 84-62 non-conference matchup at Cornell College on Sunday.

The Red Devils kept it close for the first 10 minutes of play, but the Rams gained control in the last minutes before halftime and relinquished it.

Eureka center Logan Dorethy (Hamilton, Ill./West Hancock/Hannibal-LaGrange) scored a game-high 24 points on 11-for-16 shooting and had five rebounds.

Fellow big man Cody Baer (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap/Southwestern Illinois) tallied 18 points and a team-high six rebounds, while guard Austyn Ellison (Hudson, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) notched 11 points and seven assists.

Andrew Gonzalez (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) contributed five rebounds, an assist and a block in 15 minutes off the bench.

Cornell guards Jordan Magnani and Zach Ingle both posted 21 points, while center Logan Sharp had a double-double of 10 points and 12 boards and Jayden Meeker added 11 points.

The Rams only shot a little better than Eureka, hitting 47.1 percent from the floor compared to the Red Devils' 43.1, but they won the rebounding battle 46-26 and put away 14 of 15 free throws to EC's 3 of 3.

The Red Devils (1-2) will next host Millikin (1-0) in non-conference play at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
