Feehan, Davis Send Red Devils Past Spalding, 84-75

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore guard Shea Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) poured in 36 points and junior guard Kendall Davis (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S./Illinois Central) added 30, leading the Red Devils to their 10th consecutive home victory in a 84-75 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over Spalding, Thursday night at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.

The Red Devils and Golden Eagles played to a tight first half until EC closed the period with a flurry. Davis connected from 3 with 2:01 left before intermission, giving the Red Devils a 35-31 cushion and igniting a 14-2 run to finish the half. A layup from senior guard Nate Bell (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) with 17 seconds left capped the surge and gave EC a 46-33 cushion at halftime.

Spalding recovered early in the second half, forcing a 51-51 tie on Steven Gordon's free throw with 14:57 remaining. Rylan Rowe gave SU the lead 79 seconds later and the Golden Eagles ultimately led 58-56 on Steven Gordon's trey with 12:48 to play.

Eureka took control from that point forward, going ahead for good on Feehan's 3-pointer just 20 seconds later. The bucket started a 12-0 run to push EC to a 68-58 lead.

The visitors had one final push, rallying within 77-73 with 1:44 left, but Eureka answered with a jumper from sophomore forward Alex Wiegand (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) and the Red Devils led by at least two possessions the rest of the way.

Feehan went 11-for-19 overall, 6-for-12 from beyond the arc and a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. He hauled down seven rebounds. Davis went 10-for-16 and went 7-for-7 at the free throw line. Eureka was 19-for-24 from the line as a team.

Four Golden Eagles reach double figures, led by 16 points apiece from Rowe and Steven Gordon.

Eureka will shoot for its fourth straight win and try to snap a two-game skid in SLIAC road contests when the Red Devils visit Principia Saturday at 3 p.m. in Elsah, Ill.
