Red Devils' rally comes up short at Webster

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Freshman guard Hank Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) scored 18 points, grabbed a season-high eight rebounds and dished a season-high five assists, but the Webster Gorloks built up a sizable first half lead to cruise to a 86-72 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Eureka College men's basketball team, Monday night inside Grant Gymnasium in St. Louis, Mo.

Webster built up an early 12-point lead, ahead of the Red Devils 17-5 with 13:43 to play in the first half. Eureka rallied, pulling within one after a pair of made free throws from senior guard Sam Feehan (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame [Illinois Central]) sliced the deficit to 19-18 at the 9:36 mark.

The Gorloks stayed hot from the field in the first half and built up a 48-28 lead heading into the locker room after shooting 18-of-34 from the field for a 52.9 percent mark with six of 13 coming from beyond the arc.

EC got within 10 points at 79-69 with 1:44 remaining in the second half but the Gorloks knocked down 7-of-8 free throws to extend the lead to 14 as time expired.

Four Gorloks scored in double figures, with Jonathan Objo leading the effort with 16 points. Hunter Ward added 15, Adam Etter chipped in 14 and C.J. tallied 10.
