Benedictine Edges Eureka Football, 38-28

LISLE, Ill. – The Eureka football team fell short on the road 38-28 at Benedictine on Saturday.

The Red Devils held a 21-10 lead in the first half, but the Eagles came back with 14 in the third quarter, and after exchanging scores in the fourth, they sealed it with a 27-yard touchdown pass with less than three minutes remaining.

Sophomore quarterback Nathan Garard (Gibson City, Ill./Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley) threw for 171 yards and four touchdowns on 18-for-30 passing. He also ran for 75 yards on 11 rushes.

Junior wide receiver Pierce Bradford (Decatur, Ill./Argenta-Oreana) scored two touchdowns and recorded 78 yards on eight receptions. Samuel Mono (Joilet, Ill./Joliet) scored two touchdowns and recorded 59 yards on five receptions.

Joe Hughes (Bloomington, Ill./University) rushed for 95 yards on 13 attempts.

Defensively, Nehemiah Butler (Elmwood, Ill./Elmwood), Jack Arnett (Princeville, Ill./Princeville) and Jon Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) recorded a team-high eight total tackles, Keegan Kerr (White Heath, Ill./Monticello) posted a sack and Malek Folston (Cocoa, Fla./Vera) made his third reception in two games.

Next week, Eureka (0-2, 0-2 NACC) will face Concordia Chicago (0-2, 0-2 NACC) on the road at 12 p.m.
