Gorloks overpower Red Devils in series finale

EUREKA, Ill. – Sophomore outfielder Ray Vogel (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) tagged three singles, but the preseason conference favorite Webster Gorloks poured on eight runs in the first en route to a 16-1 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Eureka College baseball team, Monday afternoon at Henry Sand Field.

Sophomore catcher Logan Wilde (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) smoked a single down the third base line to tally Eureka's lone run, scoring Vogel from second.

Vogel tacked on a pair of stolen bases to bring his season total to a team-leading four.

Sophomore Wyatt Froehling (Cissna Park, Ill./Cissna Park) tossed 4.2 innings of effective relief work, allowing two runs on four hits.

The Red Devils have a short turnaround until they are back on the diamond. Eureka heads to Jacksonville, Ill. tomorrow to take on the MacMurray Highlanders in a league double header beginning at 1 p.m.
