EUREKA – For the second straight week, Eureka's Karissa Heffernan (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The accomplished junior placed 12th in the women's 5k at the Prairie Stars Invitational on Friday with a time of 20:05, breaking her own school record and setting a new personal record. Her 6:28 pace per mile was a career best at any distance. Heffernan helped lead the Red Devils to a fifth-place finish overall against stiff competition.

It's her second time being named SLIAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week and the third SLIAC weekly honor of her career, following last week's award and a SLIAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor last spring.

A third-place finisher in the SLIAC Cross Country Meet last October, Heffernan entered this season as one of 10 SLIAC Preseason Watch List selections.
