Eureka Women’s Wrestling Takes on Loaded Field in Rock Island

ROCK ISLAND, IL. – Over the weekend, the Eureka women's wrestling team travelled to Rock Island, Illinois to participate in the Jim Fox D3 Invite.

The NCAA is combined for women's wrestling and does not distinguish between Division 1, 2, or 3. Augustana hosted this event to serve as a fill-in for an official national Division III women's wrestling tournament.

On Day 1, the Red Devils competed very well and were able to get Kiza Williams, Natallie Tobuk, McKenzie Cook, and Madison Farris all through to the next day.

The Red Devils started off slower than they wanted on Day 2 but still capped the day off with some impressive placements on the leader board.

Mckenzie Cook (Homer, Alaska) finished in 4th place. Cook was pinned in 1:04 by Dubuque's Tatum Levendahl in the 3rd place match.

Kiza Williams (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) lost by technical fall in the 5th place match to Dubuque's Mattie Papenthien to take 6th place.

Natallie Tobuk (Nome, Alaska/Nome-Beltz) placed 7th, winning by technical fall over Cera Philson of Stevens Point in the 7th place match.

Madison Farris (Chatsworth, Ill./Rifle) also placed 7th. Farris pinned Cornell's Emma Stevenson in 1:23 in the 7th place match.

Overall, the team finished 10th: a performance against an incredibly talented field that Eureka's Coach Eric Biehl was proud of. "We are thankful for Augustana putting this on," Coach Biehl said. "I'm very proud of this team. I know no one met the goal they wanted to this weekend, but I think it made them hungrier to try to bring home a conference title soon."

The women's wrestling team will be back in action inside of the Reagan Athletic Complex on February 16th, when they are set to host the SLIAC Women's Wrestling Championship after having finished 4-0 in-conference this season.
