Eureka Women’s Wrestling Goes 3-3 at Lindenwood Duals
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Eureka women's wrestling team opened their 2023-24 duals season on Saturday by picking up three victories at the Lindenwood Duals.
The Red Devils started the day 0-3, but they got better as the meet went on and ended it with three straight victories. They took down St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Fontbonne, 35-9, defeated new SLIAC member Lyon, 35-8, and defeated Joliet Junior College, 37-11.
"We were one match away from finishing 4-2 on the day," EC coach Eric Biehl said. "Was a fun day and the women's team worked hard through the small battles."
Lindenwood 40, Eureka 6
Reigning SLIAC Women's Wrestler of the Week McKenzie Cook (Homer, Alaska/Homer/Lincoln) scored Eureka's lone win of the first dual, pinning Lindenwood's Rebecca Strong in 1:41 at 155 pounds. It was the senior's first of five wins on the day.
Carl Albert 30, Eureka 17
In Eureka's second dual of the day, Josie Barham (Deer Creek, Ill./Deer Creek-Mackinaw) picked up a decision over Rachel Dismuke at 123, Cook notched a 13-3 tech fall over Kylie Hulse at 155 and Maidson Farris (Chatsworth, Ill./Rifle) pinned Grace Thompson in 2:07 at 191. Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) also won by forfeit at 130.
Simpson 43, Eureka 4
Kyley Bair (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) scored a 6-3 decision over Lanie Burkhart for her first win of the day at 116.
Eureka 35, Fontbonne 9
The Red Devils tallied two big wins on the mat, with Cook posting a 10-0 tech fall over Abby Love at 155, and Farris pinning Alex Parks in 1:32 at 170. Five others won by forfeit.
Eureka 35, Lyon 8
Bair recorded her second win of the day with a fall over Amy Jacobs in 1:18 at 116. At 136, Natallie Tobuk (Nome, Alaska/Nome-Beltz) recorded an 11-0 technical fall against Mkayla Wallace, and Cook pinned Sindey Milligan in 1:14 at 155.
Eureka 37, Joliet Junior College 11
Gada Bryant (Westville, Ill./Westville/Lincoln) delivered her first win of the day on the mat for the Red Devils at 109, pinning Dioselina Tenorio. Bair notched her third with a 7-6 decision at 116, and Barham made it three straight EC wins with an 11-0 tech fall over Guadalupe Torres.
Later, Tobuk won by fall over Madison Schlismann in 48 seconds at 136, and Kiza Williams (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) pinned Mira Marchio in 1:04. Farris came away with EC's last win on the mat with a fall over Kelli Wakins in 3:32.
