EC Women’s Wrestling Competes in Bearcat Open

LEBANON, Ill. – Eureka's Gada Bryant (Westville, Ill./Westville/Lincoln) scored a technical fall at the 2023 Bearcat Open at McKendree University on Sunday.

The 109-pound freshman defeated Colorado Mesa's Isabella Richards 10-0 in the first consolation round.

She opened the day with a loss by fall against Tiffin University's Leah Pekar in 3:33 and ended it with a 12-1 technical fall loss against Isabella Cruz of the University of the Ozarks.

Bryant was one of four Red Devils to compete in the tournament to prepare for the postseason.

"The girls saw some tough competition for the regional tournament in two weeks," EC coach Eric Biehl said. "We all have some more work to do as we get ready for the tournament."

At 136, Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) lost by fall against North Central College's Sydney Park in 1:19 and by fall in 1:16 against Lindenwood's Emily Ebsen.

At 143, Audrey Driskell (Pekin, Ill./Pekin/Lincoln) lost by fall in 29 seconds against North Central College's London Houston and lost by fall against Hiram's Allydia Byard in 2:05.

At 155, Vannah Berry (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North/Lincoln) lost by fall against Tiffin's Erin Martin in 2:09 and lost by fall against Carthage's Sierra Pienkowski in 1:37.

The Red Devils will compete in regionals on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the North Central.
