Eureka Falls in Three, Four, at Blue Angel Bash

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Eureka volleyball competed in the opening day of the Blue Angel Bash on Friday and dropped a pair of matches against Lawrence and North Central (Minn.).

The Red Devils fell in straight sets against Lawrence in the afternoon and lost in four against North Central in the late evening.

The team will face a quick turnaround in the morning when they take on Maranatha Baptist on Saturday at 9:30. After that, EC is slated to face Ripon at 11:45 a.m. to wrap up the tournament.

Lawrence 3, Eureka 0

Eureka's Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) reached double-digit kills and hit .381 for the maroon and gold against Lawrence on Friday, but the Red Devils fell in straight sets, 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.

Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) added five kills to go with 10 digs, while Emma Harris (Streator, Ill./Streator) contributed four kills. Katelin Peters (New Berlin, Ill./New Berlin) had three kills and the team's lone block.

Jordyn Fox (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) notched a team-high 12 digs in the libero spot. Faith Catour (Orion, Ill./Orion) distributed 21 assists.

Regan Reed (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornell) tied for a team-high three service aces.

The Red Devils' best set of the first match of the day was the second. Eureka had Lawrence on the ropes after a 5-0 run made it 23-16. However, the Vikings came back with the next five and scored 10 of the next 11 points to win it 26-24.

North Central (Minn.) 3, Eureka 1

Eureka hit well in the first set and picked up a 25-21 win. North Central, however, edged the Red Devils 25-23 in the second set to even the match, then won 25-15 and 25-16 in the next two sets to seal it.

Harris led the Red Devils at the net, notching 10 kills. DeBoard and Shell added nine and eight kills, respectively.

Catour notched 31 assists, and five players recorded an aces for the maroon and gold.

Four Red Devils reached double digits in digs, with Reed leading the way with 15. She was followed by Fox with 12, then Shell and Catour, both of whom had 11.

EC tallied eight block assists in the loss. Peters posted three assists and the team's lone solo block.
