EC Volleyball Battles, Falls in Five, Three, at Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — The Eureka volleyball team traveled to North Manchester, Indiana, played two matches and grinded their way into a five-set thriller, but came home 0-2 on the day.

The Red Devils fell short in a five-set battle with Rose-Hulman, 25-10, 24-26, 15-25, 25-18 15-10, then fell to home team Manchester in three, 25-13, 25-13, 25-11. 

EC's offense was productive in a gritty first match, but it dried up in the second.

Offensively, Ariel Campbell (Decatur, Ill./Cerro Gordo) led the way with 11 kills while hitting .146. Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) hit a team-high .200 and finished with eight kills.

In the five-setter against Rose-Hulman, setter Sara Worrell (Jacksonville, Ill./Routt Catholic) notched a nice double-double of 27 assists and 22 digs.

In addition to Worrell, three other Red Devils put up double-digit digs, with McKenzie Reiners (Milford, Ill./Milford) posting 17, while Caitlin Miller (Washington, Ill./Washington) and Paige Klingler (Newton, Ill/Newton) each notched 15. 

In the loss to Manchester, Megan Masching (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) notched a team-high nine digs. Paige Klingler (Newton, Ill./Newton) followed with seven, and McKenzie Reiners (Milford, Ill./Milford) and Worrell had four digs apiece. Miller had a team-high four kills.

The Red Devils (5-13) are off for the next two days, then will looking to get back on track when they take on Monmouth (8-9) 7 p.m. Tuesday in a rematch of the Red Devils' season opener.
