Nick Mackall Named Eureka College Volleyball Head Coach

EUREKA — Nick Mackall has been named Eureka College volleyball head coach, according to an announcement from Director of Athletics Bryan Moore Wednesday morning.

Mackall is the 14th head coach in program history and succeeds Becca LaKosh, who stepped down in November after three seasons (2016-18).

Mackall comes to Eureka after spending four seasons at NCAA Division III Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. He was the top assistant coach of the Bulldogs for three seasons and was promoted to associate head coach in 2018.

During his four-year tenure, the Bulldogs reached the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament three times. In 2015, AC finished in the top three of the MIAA for the first time since 2007. The Bulldogs finished with a winning record and placed fourth or better in the MIAA twice.

At Adrian, Mackall was responsible for developing recruiting strategies, organizing team and recruiting travel, monitoring academic progress and the operational budget, planning youth volleyball camps and researching strength-training and on-court development. He also assisted the sports information department and participated in event and facility management.

"We're certainly looking forward to Nick joining our team and assuming the leadership role within our volleyball program," Moore said. "Nick will be joining us from a very successful NCAA Division III program to go along with a unique blend of experience at the high school and club levels. We're eager for him to bring that experience and perspective to our program." 

In addition to coaching college volleyball at Adrian, Mackall helped develop talent for USA Volleyball's Lakeshore Region Volleyball Association and coached club volleyball for High Street Athletics. He's also contributed to college camps at Adrian, Purdue, Ball State, Michigan, Butler and Indiana.

Prior to joining Adrian's staff, he coached girls and boys volleyball at Indianapolis Cathedral High School from 2013-2015. Mackall notched a 58-12 record as a varsity assistant for the girls team, earning a Class 4A state runner-up finish in 2014, along with back-to-back conference titles and a national top-40 ranking by Max Preps.

As a varsity assistant for the boys team in 2015, Mackall contributed to another conference championship and a third-place finish in the Indiana State Tournament. In 2013 and 2014, his junior varsity squad went 52-12 and was the highest ranked team in the state.

A 2012 graduate of Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, Mackall was a student manager for the women's volleyball team during the Hoosiers' first NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance in program history in 2010.
