Monmouth Withstands Late Eureka Push, Wins in Three

EUREKA -- The Eureka College volleyball team opened its home schedule playing in a non-conference match versus Monmouth on Tuesday evening at the Reagan Athletic Complex. In a high-energy and competitive matchup, the Fighting Scots won, 25-18, 25-21, 27-25.

After a competitive first half to the first set, the Fighting Scots gained momentum from  the service game of Laura Dulee. MC's final seven-point margin was its largest of the set.

The second set was competitive throughout until the Fighting Scots took a 25-21 set victory. Abby Tucker's kill broke a 20-20 tie and sparked MC to a 5-1 burst to end the frame.

In the final set the Red Devils took the Fighting Scots down to the wire, at one point battling back from a five-point deficit to lead 24-23. Monmouth recovered and took the final set 27-35.

Leading the charge, Heather Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) had a team-leading eight kills. Kary Langan (Lakewood, Ill./Shelbyville H.S.) tacked on seven. Eureka totaled 10 blocks as a team, led by four block assists and a block solo from Caitlin Miller (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.).

The Red Revils look to rebound Wednesday night when they open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against defending league champion Westminster at 7 p.m. at the Reagan Athletic Complex.
