Red Devils Sweep Away Iowa Wesleyan

EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College senior Anna Crank (Washburn, Ill./Midland H.S./Clarke) put down a match-high 12 kills, senior Meagan Hanney (Sherman, Ill./Williamsville H.S.) logged seven kills without an error on eight attempts and the Red Devils put up a season-high attack percentage of .349 in a 25-11, 25-12, 25-9 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference romp over Iowa Wesleyan, Tuesday night at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.

The Red Devils cruised in game one, scoring the first five points and never looking back. Eureka hit .324 as a team, collecting 15 kills against just three errors. A service ace from Heather Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) capped a run of five consecutive points to secure the win.

In game two, Eureka sprinted to a 10-3 lead and forced a timeout after a ball-handling error capped a stretch of five straight EC points. The visitors never threatened to close the gap before a McKenzie Reiners (Milford, Ill./Milford H.S.) service aces punctuated a 25-12 triumph.

A Lexi Dooley (Sutter, Ill./Warsaw H.S.) kill jump-started Eureka's attack in the third game. Detmers followed with back-to-back aces and the rout was on. The Red Devils hit .520 in game three, putting down 15 kills and committing only two errors on 25 attempts.

Crank had 12 kills on 24 swings. Sara Worrell (Jacksonville, Ill./Routt Catholic H.S.) led the hosts with 17 assists, followed by Robinson with 14. Worrell, Detmers and Bayley Driskell (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) shared the team lead with nine digs each. Caitlin Miller (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) continued her strong play at the net with four total blocks.

Eureka will break from SLIAC play Thursday for a 7 p.m. match at Lincoln Christian.
