Red Devils Secure First Victory in Idell’s Tenure

EUREKA, Illinois – Eureka College opened their home slate with a 3-1 (26-24, 31-33, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Knox College on Tuesday night at the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.  After an opening season loss on the road, the Red Devils returned home to a high energy crowd and secured first year head coach, Rebecca Idell's first career win.

The Red Devils battled for a hard fought victory in set 1, securing the 26-24 victory.  Set number 2 was just as exciting as Eureka and Knox exchanged points, with Eureka succumbing late in the set 31-33.  Set 3 Eureka came out competing at a high level and secured the momentum winning, 25-17 and that momentum propelled them to the match victory in game 4, 25-22.

Eureka was led by Junior outside hitter Destiny Adkins with 20 kills and sophomore hitter Lexi Dooley with 17 kills.  Sophomore Heather Robinson led the way for the Red Devils with 38 assists, and tied Senior Emily Harrod with 7 digs each.

The win versus Knox is the first against the Interstate 74 opponent since 2008.  Eureka, now 1-1 on the season and 1-0 at home returns to the Reagan on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m.
