BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – On the warmest, windiest day of the year, the Eureka cross country and distance team battled through the elements at the Olivet-Nazarene Tiger Invite on Saturday.

Riley Reuter (Henry, Ill./Henry-Senachwine) led the Red Devils in the women's 1,500, taking 36th in 6:33.06.

Isabella Carbajal (Chicago, Ill./Shepard) came in 39th in a personal-best 6:42.30, and she was followed by Sophia Simonis (West Frankfurt, Ill./Frankfurt), who finished 40th in 7:09.26, Odessa Grove (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown), who was 41st in 7:29.83 and Nikki Tye (Kewanee, Ill./Wethersfield), who recorded a personal-best time of 7:31.21.

Carbajal also ran through heat and a strong headwind in the 400, taking 23rd in 1:18.82.

Sarah Kimbro (Peoria, Ill./Metamora), meanwhile, competed in her second-ever 3000-meter Steeplechase with increased confidence and placed sixth in 16:41.12, just off her PR from last week.

Due to illness, Javy Garcia (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) was the only Red Devil to compete on the men's side. He finished 45th in 5:18.09.

The Red Devils will wrap up the 2022 spring distance season with the SLIAC Outdoor Championships next Saturday in Greenville.

"It is always fun to celebrate PRs, and strong efforts," EC cross country and distance coach Chris Robinson said. "Coach Ian (Cummings) and I were impressed with the continued improvements made by the whole team. We will come back rested and ready for conference next week."
