Harfst Wins Javelin at SLIAC Track & Field Championships

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) won the women's javelin, Brett Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) was the runner-up in three separate events and the men's 400 meter relay team finished fourth, leading the Eureka College track and field team at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, Friday and Saturday in Greenville, Ill.

The Eureka men's team totaled 34 points to finish fifth overall. The EC women earned 24 points for a sixth-place finish. Greenville won the men's team title and Webster claimed the women's crown.

Harfst's throw of 108 feet, 11 inches was the winner and bested 11 other competitors in the event. Harfst also claimed second place in the discus with a heave of 119 feet, seven inches, less than two feet behind winner Katie Suiters of Spalding. Annaliese Miller (Chenoa, Ill./Prairie Central H.S.) gave the Red Devils three top-two finishes in women's field events after claiming a tie for second place in the high jump with a jump of four feet, six inches.

Charlton led the men's team at the meet, earning second place in the 100 meters with a finals time of 11.06 seconds. He was also the runner-up in the 200 in 22.59 seconds. Additionally, Charlton was one of Eureka's top performers in a field event, finishing third in the long jump at 22 feet, one inch.

Dahzee Horton (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S.) was also third for the Red Devils, jumping 44 feet, 7.5 inches in the triple jump. Collin Aimone (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall H.S.) represented Eureka's eighth top-five individual finish with a fifth-place showing in the long jump at 20 feet, 10 inches.

Eureka's 400 meter relay squad of LeAnthony Reasnover (Momence, Ill./Momence H.S.), Charlton, Aimone and Horton sprinted to a finish of 43.21 seconds, less than a second behind the winning team from Webster.
