Red Devils Fall at Westminster in Three

FULTON, Mo. – The Eureka volleyball team had one of its most efficient hitting nights of the season on Friday, but the Red Devils couldn't keep up with Westminster on the road.

The Blue Jays swept the maroon gold 25-15, 25-11, 25-16.

The Red Devils opened by hitting a solid .185, then improved to .217 in the second set before cooling down to .077 in the third and final game.

Senior Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) tallied six kills and only had two errors to finish with a team-high .235 hitting percentage.

Freshmen Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and Alexis Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) followed with five kills apiece. Sophomore Regan Reed (Flanagan, Ill./Flangan-Cornell) added three, along with the team's lone service ace of the night. She and freshman Mallory Ward (Bridgeton, Mo./Ladue) teamed up together on a block.

Setters Faith Catour (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Baylor Cluver (Watseka, Ill./Watseka) posted 13 and seven assists, respectively.

Libero Jordyn Fox (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) tallied a team-high 10 digs.

On the other side of the net, Westminster's Haley Menke and Claire Whitehouse each racked up a match-high 13 kills. Whitehouse was amazingly efficient, posting 13 on 14 swings to finish with a .929 hitting efficiency.

Setter Gretchen Durbala registered 28 assists and Erica Schrader came up with a team-high 12 digs.

On Tuesday, the Red Devils will host Blackburn in the final Eureka regular-season volleyball match of the fall. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.
