EC Women’s Soccer Season Ends In SLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals

FENTON, Mo. – Second-seeded Webster ended the Eureka women's soccer team's postseason run with a 6-0 victory in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Monday evening.

The Gorloks tallied three goals in the first half and three goals in the second half to notch the win and move to the semifinal round.

Jordan Lande scored twice for Webster, while Mackenzie O'Neal, Cate Ciske, Payton Williams and Angie Calabrese each had a goal as well.

Eureka goalkeeper Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton) racked up 18 saves in 90 minutes in the net. EC's all-time saves leader finishes her junior campaign with 97 saves on the season and is now up to 603 in her career.

The Red Devils finished the spring 2021 season with a 2-7 record overall and a 2-6 record in SLIAC play, notching multiple wins for the first time since 2015. The squad was often shorthanded due to injury and COVID-19 protocols, but it showed improved improvement and potential throughout the season.

"I'm unbelievably proud of the hard work and dedication from the girls throughout this season," second-year EC head coach Shelby Chrisman-Forza said. "We faced unforeseen circumstances and battled through tough games. We not only recorded a historic win, but we finished 2-6 in conference for the first time in many years. This season is just a stepping stone of what we are planning to build in the future."
