Elmhurst Scores Early, Late in Win Over EC Women's Soccer

ELMHURST, Ill. — The Eureka women's soccer team nearly kept Elmhurst from scoring in the second half, but the Red Devils fell to the Blue Jays in a 6-0 non-conference match on the road Tuesday night.

Six different players found the back of the net for Elmhurst: Brooke Janeczek, Hannah Bacon Lauryn Wesoloski, Hayley Parr, MJ Lessila and Jasmine Bandyk.

Lessila got the scoring started for the Bluejays in just the second minute on an assist from Wesoloski. It was the first of five first-half strikes for the home team.

EC almost kept Elmhurst off the board after halftime; however, Bandyk found the back of the net after a scrum in the box in the 85th minute. Still, it was only the third time this season EC has limited its opponent to one goal in a half.

Goalkeeper Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton) tallied 11 saves on the night before she was replaced by Madison Shines (Marengo, Ill./Marengo Community) during the 61st minute. The freshman was able to add five saves for the Red Devils.

Eureka (0-7) will travel to Lincoln Christian (0-7) on Friday afternoon for another non-conference contest to close out the week. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
