Red Devils Nab First Win

Milwaukee, Wis. — The Red Devils women's soccer team took the first of two games in the Mount Mary's Labor Day Invitational with the 6-0 win over Alverno. Junior Lexi Marselle (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) [Illinois Central College] score two goals, one in minute 46 and the other minute 82, both of which were unassisted. 

The Red Devils started their shot-fest with senior Faith Williams (Robinson, Ill./Robinson) taking the lead with one on frame in the sixth minute. Alverno regained possession and attempted their own offensive power against the Red Devils, but shortly thereafter, freshman Mecayela Monroe (Litchfield, Ill./Litchfield) scored her first collegiate goal to open the scoring rally for the Red Devils in minute 27, with the assist by Senior Kaitlyn West (Fort Worth, TX/Haltom). Williams and sophomore Emily Hascher (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) also contributed with their goals in minutes 52 and 75, respectively. 

West led the Red Devils with ten shots, four of which were on frame. Trailing not too far behind was Hascher with 8 shots and one on frame. Combined, the team had 29 shots, thirteen of which were on frame.

The Red Devils (1-2) resume play tomorrow against Mount Mary to wrap up the tournament at 12 p.m.

UPDATE: Alverno's own goal in the 65 minute has been overturned and is awarded to Emily Hascher (unassisted).
