Lindenwood Open Challenges Red Devils

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Eureka men's wrestling team took on another loaded field of grapplers at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday.

By the end of the day, three Red Devils had recorded at least one win on the mat.

In the 197 Black Division bracket, Thomas Culp (Quincy, Ill./Quincy/Lincoln) won by fall over Drury's Jaxon Glenn in 3:29 and advanced to the semifinals after Liberty's Carder Miller was disqualified in the quarterfinals.

Weston Swise (Canton, Ill./Canton) recorded a pair of pins at 285 pounds in the Black Division. He pinned William Woods' Joseph Irving in 2:25 in the second consolation and then pinned Joliet Junior College's Francisco Gonzalez in 5:16 in the next round.

Jake Jozwiak (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North/Lincoln) recorded one win in the 125-pound Black Division bracket, recording a 16-1 tech fall over Ouachita Baptist's Hayden Flaherty in the first found.

"We found out we need to be tougher in positions and have more fight in us," EC coach Eric Biehl said at the end of the day. "Early in the season, so we have plenty of time for the guys to respond well to this."

On Sunday, the Eureka women will open their duals season with the Lindenwood Duals at 9 a.m. The Eureka men will next be in action at MSOE on Saturday, Dec. 2.
