ELSAH, IL. – The Eureka women's basketball team fell to Principia on the road on Saturday, 73-45.
Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) led the Red Devils in scoring with 11 points, going 4-for-6 from the field. Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) trailed closely behind with 9 points off 10 tries, going 2-for-4 from three-point range.
Brin Hultz (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) led the way for the maroon and gold off the glass, picking up 10 rebounds. Hultz also posted 7 points. Ariel Chism (Pekin Ill./Pekin) tacked on another 6 points for Eureka off the bench.
Lainey Moore (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) and Makayla Rosenbery (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) each contributed 5 points. Rosenbery added 4 blocks and 7 rebounds as well.
Principia had three players finish in double-figures: Taylor Brown (19 pts), Ariana Williams (16 pts), and Alana Hinson (11 pts). Brown went 7-for-15 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line, while Williams led the team's efforts against the glass with 7 rebounds.
Saturday's result ends the Red Devils' 2023-24 season at 5-20 overall and 3-15 in SLIAC play. With a small number of returners, first year coach, Mike Hedrick, is already hard at work recruiting and excited for a second season of Red Devil basketball.
