Red Devils Fall to Greenville on the Road

GREENVILLE, IL. – The Eureka women's basketball team suffered a loss on the road to Greenville on Wednesday, falling 74-49. 

Greenville established an early lead, as Eureka struggled to find their rhythm early in the game. The Red Devils left the first quarter down 16-8 but were able to settle into the game better in the second quarter, matching Greenville's scoring in the second period. Greenville extended their lead in the third and fourth quarters to pull away down the stretch.

Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) had a standout performance for the Red Devils, posting a team-high 18 points and coming away with 9 boards, going 6-for-12 from the field.

Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) and Lainey Moore (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) each notched 9 points apiece. Ness also recorded a team-high 11 rebounds.

Katie Haffner (Lake Camelot, Ill./Illini Bluffs) added another 8 points for the maroon and gold. And Makayla Rosenbery (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) continued to lead he Red Devil defense with 4 steals.

Greenville was led by Mia deJesus and Cortney Brummer, who combined for 23 points: deJesus with 13 and Brummer with 10.

On Saturday afternoon, Eureka (5-19, 3-14 SLIAC) closes out the 2023-24 season on the road in Elsah, Illinois. The Red Devils will take on Principia (13-11, 10-7 SLIAC) at 1:00 p.m. CST.
