A Pair of Red Devils Finish in Double-digits in Loss to Spalding

EUREKA, IL. – Spalding defeated the Eureka women's basketball team 62-53 at home on Saturday.

Spalding was able to jump out to an early lead, ending the first quarter up 26-18. Eureka battled hard but was never able to bring the game back even. Spalding's Zaneiya Batiste had a standout performance for the Golden Eagles, scoring 19 points and securing 19 rebounds. Maelyn Ridener also played a crucial role, putting up 17 points and assisting her teammates twice.

Eureka's Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) led the Red Devils with her second consecutive double-double and ninth of the season. Ness recorded 12 points and picked up 11 rebounds. Brin Hultz (Quincy, Ill./Travecca Nazarene) added another 10 points and 5 rebounds to the team's effort. Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) contributed 9 points and 4 rebounds and Katie Haffner (Lake Camelot, Ill./Illini Bluffs) added another 5 points.

The Red Devils' freshmen duo out of Sullivan came off the bench to provide an important spark. Lainey Moore (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) and Chloe Smith (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) combined for 14 points. Moore recorded 9 points, going 3-for-8 from the field, and Smith chipped in 5.

The Red Devils (4-15, 2-10 SLIAC) are back in action on Thursday. They host Lyon College (12-7, 7-5 SLIAC) at 5:30 PM CST inside of the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.
