ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Eureka women's basketball team failed to take down undefeated Webster on Wednesday, falling 75-41 to the 18-0 Gorloks.
The Gorloks grabbed hold of an early lead, ending the first quarter up 23-13. They gradually extended their lead as the game went on, going 30-for-66 from the field (45.5%) and 4-of-11 from three (36.4%).
Eureka's Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) picked up her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and picking up 11 rebounds. She led the team in both categories.
Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) and Katie Haffner (Lake Camelot, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Illinois College) each contributed 7 points. Brin Hultz (Quincy, Ill./Travecca Nazarene) chipped in another 5. Makayla Rosenbery (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) and Hannah Burkiett (Elmwood, Ill./Elmwood) led the defensive efforts for Eureka. Rosenbery recorded a team-high three blocks and Burkiett grabbed a team-high two steals.
Three Gorloks finished with double-digit scoring. Julie Baudendistel notched 14 points, Nysa Gilchrist posted 12, and Claire Williams added 10.
On Wednesday, Eureka (4-14, 2-9 SLIAC) will return to Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center to host Spalding (7-10, 5-5 SLIAC) at 2:00 p.m. CST.
