FULTON, MO. – The Eureka women's basketball team couldn't get the job done at Westminster (MO.) on Sunday, falling 75-41 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead, finishing the first quarter up 16-1 and extending that lead in the second quarter to head into the locker rooms at halftime up 42-19. The Red Devils were unable to recover and never managed to grab hold of the lead.
Eureka's Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) finished with a team-high 9 points. Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) led the Red Devil's efforts off the glass, posting 5 rebounds.
Brin Hultz (Quincy, Ill./Travecca Nazarene) notched 8 points and 2 rebounds for the maroon and gold. Katie Haffner (Lake Camelot, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Illinois College) and Lainey Moore (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) each added 6 points. And, Avery Seidel (Wayne City, Ill./Wayne City/Lincoln Christian) chipped in another 5 points off the bench.
Westminster's Avylina Powell-Qualo posted a double-double, recording 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Annette Ramirez led the Blue Jays in scoring though, recording a team-high 23 points.
On Wednesday, Eureka (4-11, 2-6 SLIAC) will return to Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center to host Greenville (8-7, 5-3 SLIAC) at 5:30 p.m.
