Lyon Tops Red Devils, 105-69

BATESVILLE, AR – Lyon pulled away from the Eureka women's basketball team and handed the Red Devils a 105-69 loss on Thursday.

The Red Devils started off strong. There were 8 lead changes in the first quarter before Lyon's Brooklyn Rowe scored 7 points unanswered. Rowe sent the Scots into the break up 19-15. The Red Devils pulled it back within 1 point a few minutes into the second quarter (21-20) but were unable to ever take back the lead.

Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) and Brin Hultz combined for 43 of the Red Devils' points. Wilcox led the team in scoring, recording 23 points and coming up with 7 rebounds. Hultz followed closely behind in both categories, with 20 points and 6 assists.

Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) gathered a team-high 12 rebounds, in addition to contributing 6 points.

Eureka freshman Chloe Smith (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) took advantage of her first career start by putting up 7 points, 3 steals, and 2 assists (a career-high in all 3 categories).

Avery Seidel (Wayne City, Ill./Wayne City/Lincoln Christian) finished with 5 points, and Ariel Chism (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Makayla Rosenbery (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) each finished with 4.

Lyon's Savanna Lopez led all scorers with 16 points while shooting 8-for-11 from the field. Five additional LC players joined Lopez in tallying double figures, including all four other starters. Samantha Taylor, Natalya Kaza, Allison Byars, and Zharia Childress contributed 15, 13, 12, and 10 points, respectively. Brooklyn Rowe also joined the double figures club, coming off the bench to add 14 points to LC's scoring efforts.

Lyon's main advantage came in the paint, where they totaled 76 points, compared to Eureka's 34. The win lifts Lyon to 8-3 on the season and 3-1 in league play.

Eureka (4-8, 2-3 SLIAC) will next continue SLIAC play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. CST matchup at Mississippi University for Women (3-5, 2-2 SLIAC).
