Red Devils Fall Short Against Wisconsin-River Falls

EUREKA - The Eureka women's basketball team was unable to take down 8-1 Wisconsin-River Falls on Sunday, falling 79-48 at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center. The very strong Falcon's team has not been beaten since their opening game of the season against St. Thomas on November 11th.

The Red Devils got off to a strong start, going up 10-4 in the first 6 minutes of play and ending the 1st quarter trailing by a score of 11-10.

Eureka's shooting went cold in the 2nd quarter, as they struggled to ever find their rhythm. They would walk into halftime at a deficit of 28 points, getting outscored 29-2 in the 2nd period. Despite a disappointing 2nd quarter, the Red Devils finished the game strong, outscoring the Falcons 21-19 in the 3rd quarter and keeping the scoring close in the 4th.

Brin Hultz led the Red Devils offense with 14 points in her first ever appearance for the maroon and gold.

Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) and Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) each contributed 8 points on the night. Ness also led the team's efforts in the paint, coming away with 8 rebounds.

Avery Seidel (Wayne City, Ill./Wayne City/Lincoln Christian) and Katie Haffner (Lake Camelot, Ill./Illini Bluffs) chipped in 6 points apiece.

River Falls' Macy Nilsen led all scorers with 14 points. She was one of four Falcons to reach double figures. Karleigh Creasey, Averie Varsho, and Olivia Hoerl notched 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Hoerl, coming off the bench for the Falcons, also led River Falls in rebounds with 7. Hoerl was not the only key contributor that subbed in for River Falls; they ended the game with 32 bench points.

Eureka (4-6, 2-2 SLIAC) will be back in action on Saturday, December 30th in Jacksonville, Illinois, as they take on Illinois College.
