Webster Tops Red Devils, 76-33

EUREKA – The Eureka women's basketball team couldn't knock off undefeated Webster on Wednesday, falling 76-33 at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.

The Gorloks got off to a strong start in the first quarter, using full-court pressure to help build a sizable lead. The Red Devils played from behind the rest of the way.

Avery Seidel (Wayne City, Ill./Wayne City/Lincoln Christian) finished with a team-high 10 points for the Red Devils while handling the bulk of the Red Devils' ball-handling duties against the press.

Makayla Rosenbery (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) followed with nine points while also contributing six rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) gathered a game-high 17 rebounds. It was her fifth straight game of recording at least 12 rebounds. She also added three blocks, two steals, two points and an assist.

Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West), Ariel Chism (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Nevaeh Essien (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central) each had four points.

Webster's Bethany Lancester led all scorers with 17 points and had a team-high seven boards while shooting 5-for-7 from the field. She was one of four Gorloks to reach double figures. Nysa Gilchrist, Kate Rolfes and Julie Baudendistel notched 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Gorloks scored 35 points off turnovers and recorded 16 steals. They improved to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in league play.

Eureka (3-4, 1-2 SLIAC) will next continue SLIAC play on Saturday with a 12 p.m. matchup at Spalding (3-4, 1-1 SLIAC).
