Panthers Pull Away from Red Devils, 75-57

ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team fell in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Principia on Tuesday evening, 75-57.

Three Red Devils reached double figures in the loss. Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) notched a team-high 12 points, ending her impressive 20-point game streak at nine. Savanah Moore (Canton, Ill./Mount Pulaski/MacMurray) and Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County/MacMurray) each had 11 points.

Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord/Glen Oaks) tallied eight points, seven assists, six boards and two assists. Madi Jernigan (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Blackburn) had eight points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Eureka got off to a slow start, but the Red Devils stayed in striking distance throughout the first half and only by eight at halftime.

The home team, however, came out strong in the third quarter and began to pull away. The Panthers outscored EC 21-8 to take a 21-point in the break.

The Red Devils shot a team-best 43.8 percent and made a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, but the visitors couldn't make up the ground it lost in the third.

Principia shot 43.3 percent from the field on the night and made 5 of 10 3-point attempts. Taylor Brown led the way, posting a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Ariana Williams followed with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Alana Hinson, Paige Fowler and Brin Hultz each contributed 11 points. Fowler also had nine rebounds.

Eureka (5-13, 2-5 SLIAC) will next travel to Greenville (12-5, 5-1) on Saturday for a rematch of a close SLIAC-opener. On Jan. 4, the Red Devils just fell short against the Panthers at home, 81-77. Greenville currently sits atop the conference standings, along with Webster.
