Chicago Downs Red Devils, 82-49

 

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Eureka College senior guard Luci Weis (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community H.S.) led the Red Devils with nine points and made a pair of 3-point baskets to move into fourth place on the program's all-time list, but host Chicago used a strong first half to earn an 82-49 victory over EC, Monday night in Chicago, Ill.

Weis went 2-for-6 from beyond the arc Monday, improving her career 3-pointer total to 122 to move ahead of Sarah Taylor (1994-98) for fourth place on Eureka's all-time list for 3-pointers made.

Eureka opened the contest with a 4-0 lead thanks to buckets from Kennedy Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield H.S.) and Kerrigan Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield H.S.). The visitors ultimately led 8-6 at the midway point of the first quarter, but the Maroons closed the frame on a 13-4 run to lead 21-10 after 10 minutes.

UC used a decisive second quarter to seize control of the contest. The hosts led 46-15 at halftime.

Weis, Kerrigan Dura and sophomore Samantha Sarnes (Havana, Ill./Havana H.S.) scored nine points apiece to pace the Red Devils. Senior Michaela Balducci (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) collected a team-high seven rebounds and Kerrigan Dura distributed five assists.

Chicago, which received votes in the most recent D3hoops.com national top-25 poll, enjoyed scoring contributions from 12 different players. Taylor Lake came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting.

Eureka will return to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition Saturday at 1 p.m. against Webster in St. Louis, Mo.
