EC women roll in conference tilt against Blackburn

EUREKA, Ill. – Senior guard Emily Camden (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) netted 14 points, guiding the Red Devils to a 70-41 St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference victory over the Blackburn Beavers, Saturday afternoon inside the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center. The 41 points allowed is the lowest total in the Coach Thompson era.

Eureka controlled the contest from the tip, scoring the first 16 points of the game over the first four minutes. The Beavers finally got on the board at the 5:54 mark in the first frame behind a layup from Gariel Pierce. The Red Devils continued to push their lead in the first quarter behind a strong defensive effort, taking a 22-6 advantage into the second quarter.

The Red Devils maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second quarter, ballooning to a 21-point, 35-14 edge with 41 seconds left before intermission.

EC continued to roll in the second half, extending their advantage to 28 (50-22) with 3:14 remaining in the quarter thanks to a three-point play from freshman forward Rachel Pouliot (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington). Pouliot finished the contest with a season-high six points over ten minutes of action.

A layup in the final quarter from freshman forward Jordan Maxwell (Cuba, Ill./Cuba) gave Eureka their largest lead of the day, 65-35, with 4:54 until the final buzzer. Maxwell scored a season-high five points over six minutes of play.

All sixteen Red Devils saw the floor in the contest, highlighted by eleven different scorers.

BC's Pierce collected a double-double for the visitors, scoring 10 points and snagging 14 rebounds. The Beavers shot just 1-for-9 (.111) from beyond the arc.
