Eureka Drops Two at Spalding
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Spalding handed the Eureka softball team a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference losses on Saturday, winning 10-2 and 11-0.
Game 1: Spalding 10, Eureka 2 (5 inn.)
Spalding pitcher and SLIAC Pitcher of the Week Michaela Ferman held Eureka to one run on six hits and one walk in five innings.
The Golden Eagles scored the first nine runs of the game, while the Red Devils manufactured both of their runs in the fifth inning.
Eureka's Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) scored an unearned run following a fielding error that allowed Gada Bryant (Westville, Ill./Bismark-Henning/Rossville-Alvin) to reach with two runners in scoring position. After that, Bryant stole second and Kacy Dunlap (Mount Sterling, Ill./Brown County) scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
Mackenzie Daniels (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) and Delaney Douglas (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) each had a pair of hits for EC.
Game 2: Spalding 11, Eureka 0 (5 inn.)
Spalding continued its pitching success in Game 2 with a strong performance by senior Bella Velez. She notched three six strikeouts and limited the Red Devils to three hits and one walk in five innings.
Eureka leadoff hitter Macey Whisker (Washington, Ill./Washington/Illinois Central College) went 2-for-2, and Bri Tanksley (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) added a hit as well.
