DALLAS – Dallas edged Eureka 9-7 in five innings before a storm suspended the last game of the Red Devils' spring break trip in the sixth inning on Thursday.

The Red Devils fell into a eight-run hole in the first innings of the game, but the team started working its way back with a four-run third and a three-run fourth to make it a one-run game.

Dallas got one back in the bottom half to make it 9-7, and that ended up being that last official run of the game.

In the top of the sixth, Eureka started to rally again, with Ashlyn Voyles (Blue Ridge, Ill./Farmer City) delivering a game-tying, two-run home run and Macey Whisker (Washington, Ill./Washington/Illinois Central College) notching a go-ahead RBI triple to give the Red Devils a 10-9 lead. The problem was that the game was suspended due to inclement weather before the bottom half of the inning, so when the game was ultimately called off, the score reverted back to the last full inning and the rally was officially erased.

Eureka scored seven runs on eight hits, with Carmen Howard (Warrensburg, Ill./Warrensburg-Latham) and Voyles each going 2-for-2. Bri Tanksley (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora), Kacy Dunlap (Mount Sterling, Ill./Brown County/Lincoln), Klaire Morris (Laurel, Mont./Billings Skyview) and Farrah Michaels (Mansfield, Ill./Blue Ridge) all scored one as well.

After a rough start in the circle, Claire Wuethrich (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) came in and threw 3 1/3 inning, allowing only run on three hits and a walk, and striking out a pair.

The second game of the day was cancelled due to inclement weather.

After a long week off in Texas, Eureka (1-6) heads home for a week of practice and recovery. The Red Devils will next take on Rose-Hulman on the road next Saturday at 12 p.m.
