Erin Smith Named SLIAC Pitcher of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the second time in her 23-outing career, Eureka College sophomore right-hander Erin Smith (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap H.S.) has been selected St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Smith pitched the Red Devils to a 5-0 win at USCAA Robert Morris-Springfield last Thursday.

Smith pitched a three-hit shutout to beat the Eagles in the first game of last week's non-conference doubleheader. She struck out five, walked one and didn't allow a runner to reach scoring position until the fourth inning.

Thursday's effort lowered Smith's season ERA to a league-best 0.27. With a 3-0 record, she has allowed one run on 16 hits in 26.0 innings of action this spring.

Smith previously earned SLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors as a freshman on March 6, 2017. Thursday's win was the 12th of her career and lowered her career ERA to 2.41 over 116.1 innings, currently sixth-lowest in program history among pitchers with at least 100 innings.

The Red Devils will begin their 18-game SLIAC schedule Wednesday at Blackburn at 3 p.m.
