Eureka Opens Season Sunday at Fastpitch Dreams Classic

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – One year removed from a near-perfect spring trip, the Eureka College softball team will return to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic for the sixth consecutive season to open the 2017 campaign. The Red Devils will take on Ursinus (Pa.) in Sunday's opener at 12:30 p.m. CST.

Reigning St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Debi Neff and the Red Devils will play eight times in five days, all against NCAA Division III opponents. Eureka will play Lehman (N.Y.) in Sunday's nightcap at 2:30 p.m CST.

On Monday, EC will play Hilbert (N.Y.) at 12:30 p.m. CST, followed by a single contest against John Jay (N.Y.) at 2:30 p.m. CST. Tuesday's schedule includes an 8:30 a.m. CST game against Eastern Mennonite (Va.) and a 10:30 a.m. CST bout against Penn State-Harrisburg.

Following an off-day on Wednesday, the Red Devils will bring their eight-game trip to a close on Thursday. EC plays Chatham (Pa.) at 8:30 a.m. CST before closing the trip at 10:30 a.m. against Mary Washington (Va.).

The 2017 visit is Eureka's sixth to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in North Myrtle Beach. The Red Devils are 18-21 at the event since 2011, including a 7-1 mark last season.

Eureka returns six starters from last season's 29-win team, including 2017 Fastpitch News preseason All-American Kerrigan Dura (Edwards, Ill./Brimfield H.S.) and 2016 All-SLIAC picks Lexi Litwiller (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S./Lincoln) and Kali George (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.). The Red Devils were picked fourth in the preseason SLIAC coaches' poll.
