Red Devils move to 14-2 with sweep of Mount Mary

EUREKA, Ill. – Sophomore Kali George (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) scattered three hits, struck out seven and issued no runs, pitching the Eureka College softball team to a 5-0 non-conference victory in the opener against the Mount Mary Blue Angels, Tuesday afternoon in Eureka. The Red Devils held off the Blue Angels to take game two, 7-4.

The sweep moves Eureka to 14-2 on the season, a win shy from tying their win total from last season.

Senior Savanna Tapper (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) provided a pair of hits and a RBI in game one. The Red Devils benefitted from seven Mount Mary mistakes.

George fired her second complete-game shutout of the season and improves her record in the circle to 8-1 this season.

In game two, Eureka wasted no time seizing early control of the contest with a four-run first inning. FreshmanKerrigan Dura roped a single to left field bringing in two runners to highlighting the early run-scoring.

The Blue Angels sliced the deficit in half with a pair of runs over the second and third inning before junior Lexi Litwiller (Eureka, Ill./Eureka [Lincoln College]) smashed a run-scoring triple to left field and later scored on a wild pitch to extend the host's lead back to four, 6-2.

Eureka was able to hold off another Mount Mary attack and tacked on one more unearned run in the sixth.

Patterson picked up her sixth win in the circle, surrendering eight hits and allowing four earned runs. The right-hander struck out five and walked a pair.

Eureka will begin their conference slate on Thursday with a home double header against the MacMurray Highlanders. First pitch of the twinbill is scheduled for 3 p.m.
