Tapper leads Senior Day sweep over Prairie State

EUREKA, Ill. – Senior Savanna Tapper (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) finished her Senior Day 5-for-7 at the plate with a pair of home runs, five runs scored, and four runs driven in, lifting the Eureka College softball team to a doubleheader sweep over the Prairie State College Pioneers, Sunday afternoon in Eureka. The Red Devils won game one, 7-2, and took the nightcap, 12-7.

The Red Devils improve to 27-3 on the season and sit in first place in the current St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 9-1 record.

Tapper finished game one 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and one RBI. The senior broke the all-time school record for runs scored in a career over this past week with 141, breaking Allyson Carter's record of 136 (1994-97).

Freshman Kerrigan Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) went 2-for-2 and knocked in three in the opener.

Sophomore Kali George (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) notched her 14th win of the season in the circle, scattering ten hits and one earned run. George struck out three and did not issue a walk.

Tapper and Dura again led the charge in game two, each smashing a pair of home runs. Tapper led off the nightcap with a solo home run, and followed it up with a two-run shot in the bottom of the second. She finished game two with three runs scored and three runs batted in.

Dura sent a solo shot over the fence in the fourth and topped herself with a grand slam shot one inning later. Dura drove in five and scored three runs.

Senior Kylee Conlin (Kewanne, Ill./Kewanne) finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored in game two, while juniorLexi Litwiller (Eureka, Ill./Eureka [Lincoln Col.]) drove in two runners. Sophomore Krysten Wallace (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) added three runs scored and her league-leading 17th stolen base of the season.

Junior Rachel Patterson (Tremont, Ill./Tremont [ICC]) tossed her way to her 13th victory of the season in the circle. Patterson surrendered eight hits and five earned runs.

The softball team will be back in action on Thursday with a road conference doubleheader at Iowa Wesleyan. Game one start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
