Red Devils pick up 30th win of the season in sweep of Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka College softball team improved to 30-6 overall and 12-4 in conference action with a pair of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victories over the Blackburn Beavers, Monday afternoon in Carlinville, Ill. The Red Devils took the opener, 9-4, and followed up with a 7-2 victory in game two.

The victories tie the single-season mark for most wins in school history, tying the 1990 (30-4) and 1996 (30-7) teams.

Senior Savanna Tapper (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) picked up three hits and scored three runs in the opener, while freshman Kerrigan Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) added a pair of hits and drove in two.

Freshman Madaline Kane (Havana, Ill./Havana) tallied her first collegiate triple in the contest.

Sophomore Kali George (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) notched her 15 win of the season inside the circle, scattering eight hits and allow two earned runs.

George and junior Lexi Litwiller (Eureka, Ill./Eureka [Lincoln Col.]) paced the Red Devils in the nightcap, collecting three hits and driving in two runs apiece. Tapper supplied a pair of runs off a double in the fifth inning.

Junior Rachel Patterson (Tremont, Ill./Tremont [ICC]) surrendered two runs off five hits to record her 15th victory of the season. Both her and George are a pair of victories away from tying the single-season mark for most wins a season in school history.

The Red Devils will try to add to their win total and lock in the #2 seed in the SLIAC Tournament on Friday with their final conference doubleheader of the season against the Webster Gorloks. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
