Elam Wins Pole Vault at SLIAC Championship

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Eureka College junior Cooper Elam (Farmington, Ill./Farmington H.S.) won the pole vault and sophomore Brett Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) added a trio of top-four finishes, leading the Red Devils at the inaugural St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship in Greenville, Ill.

Elam's vault of 4.10 meters was the best among seven competitors in the event and secured 10 team points for the Red Devils.

Charlton finished third in the 200-meter dash in 22.24 seconds, third in the long jump with a leap of 6.70 meters and fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds.

In all, the EC men's team finished fifth as a team with 26 points. Greenville won the team title with 337 points.

Freshman Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) was the lone EC women's competitor on Monday. She finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 33.57 meters and sixth in the javelin with a throw of 25.12 meters.
