Charlton’s Long Jump Win Highlights Track Day at Concordia

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore Brett Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) won the long jump and the 400-meter relay team of Trevon Moore (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley H.S.), Charlton, Josh Kuse (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.) and Collin Aimone (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall H.S.) placed second, leading the EC men's track & field team to a fourth-place team finish at Saturday's Cougar Invitational hosted by Concordia in River Forest, Ill.

Charlton's jump of 6.6 meters bested 25 other competitors that included student-athletes from NCAA Division II and NAIA institutions.

The men's 400-meter relay team ran its race in 43.78 seconds, less than two seconds off the pace of Benedictine's winning time of 41.85 seconds.

In track other events, Jonathan Schertz (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley H.S.) gave the Red Devils a pair of victories in both the 100-meter wheelchair dash (35.74 seconds) and the 200-meter wheelchair dash (1:10.83). Charlton finished ninth in the 100-meter dash in 11.06 seconds.

The Eureka men scored 42 points as a team to finish fourth out of 18 teams. NCAA Division II Lewis won the meet with 198 total points.

On the women's side, freshman Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) gave the Red Devils another strong performance with a throw of 34.61 meters to finish sixth out of 24 competitors.
