Red Devils Begin Outdoor Season at Knox Open

GALESBURG, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore Brett Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) won the men's long jump and freshman Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac H.S.) earned a runner-up finish in the women's discus, leading the Eureka College track & field team in its outdoor season opener at the Knox Outdoor Open, Saturday afternoon in Galesburg, Ill.

Charlton's jump of 21-feet, 2.5-inches was good enough to win the 10-competitor event. His performance was one of two top-two finishes in men's field events, as junior Cooper Elam (Farmington, Ill./Farmington H.S.) placed second in the pole vault with a final mark of 12-feet, 7.5-inches.

On the women's side, Harfst made her collegiate debut with a discus throw of 118-feet to finish in second place on Saturday. Harfst also placed fourth in the javelin with a final mark of 89-feet, 1-inch.

In men's sprint events, Charlton placed third in his first 100-meter dash in a Eureka uniform. His final time of 11.24 seconds was 0.16 seconds behind Roman Hampton's winning time of 11.08 seconds. Sophomore LeAnthony Reasnover (Momence, Ill./Momence H.S.) won his 100-meter dash heat and ultimately placed 13th in the final with a time of 12.00 seconds.

Additionally, Jonathan Schertz (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley H.S.) placed first in the 100-meter wheelchair dash in a time of 33.53 seconds.
