GALESBURG, Ill. – Eureka College sophomore Brett Charlton (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) roared to victories in the 60 meter dash, 200 meter dash and long jump, while junior Cooper Elam (Farmington, Ill./Farmington H.S.) won the pole vault, leading the Eureka College track & field team at the Fire Starter Invitational hosted by Knox in Galesburg, Ill.

Charlton ran his 60 meter dash preliminary in 7.19 seconds before besting five other runners in the final with a time of 7.11 seconds. Charlton also won the 200 meter dash final, clocking in at 23.15 seconds.

In field events, Charlton's leap of 22-feet, 0.25-inches was good enough to win the long jump. His best jump was nearly a foot better than runner up Daniel Headley of Grand View. Elam gave the Red Devils two victories in field events with his winning pole vault mark of 12 feet even.

The Red Devils also received a strong performance from junior Collin Aimone (Spring Valley, Ill./Hall H.S.), who finished third in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 7.45 seconds. Freshman Hunter Carlson (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville H.S.) turned in a sixth-place showing in the 600 meter run in 1:43.41.

The 800 meter relay squad of Aimone, sophomore Josh Kuse (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth H.S.), sophomore Colton Fauver (Catlin, Ill./Catlin H.S.) and Charlton delivered a time of 1:37.12 to finish third.

Grand View swept the men's and women's team titles at the four-team event that also included Beloit.

Eureka will be back in indoor action next Saturday at the Illinois College Snow Bird Open in Jacksonville, Ill.
