Eureka College track & field kickoff 2016 spring schedule at Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Eureka College indoor track and field team kicked off their 2016 spring season on Saturday, participating in the Titan Open inside the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.

Illinois Wesleyan won the female team event with 66 points, while Missouri S&T took home the overall male team victory with 89.50 points. Eureka and Illinois Wesleyan's men tied for 7th place with 10 points.

Highlights from the event included a 23rd place finish for freshman sprinter Josh Kuse (Heyworth, Ill./Heyworth). Kuse ran a time of 24:27 in the men's 200 meter dash. Freshman Brandon Ceh (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) placed 26th with a time of 4:54:63 in the men's 1-mile run.

Freshman Nathan Schertz (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley) clocked a time of 22.83 in the men's 55 meter wheelchair dash.

Sophomore thrower Michael Slingsby (Granville, Ill./St. Bede) took 16th place in the men's shot put with a toss of 42.25 ft. and classmate Cooper Elam (Farmington, Ill./Farmington) finished 12th in the men's pole vault with a jump of 12.56 ft.

The track and field team will continue their indoor portion of the season next weekend, running in the Jim Green Invite in Jacksonville, Ill. Illinois College will be the host of the event.
