EUREKA – The Eureka men's soccer team came up short in a Homecoming matchup against Lyon Saturday morning, 4-0.

The Red Devils were there with the Fighting Scots throughout the first half, but the visitors took advantage of a couple of EC mistakes to take 2-0 lead at halftime.

They then struck again early in the second half, capitalizing off another untimely mishap to take a three-goal lead.

In the 66th minute, the Fighting Scots made it 4-0 with a free-kick screamer by Andrei Galca that gave him hat trick on the day. Mattheus Nunes claimed Lyon's remaining goal.

With six goals on frame, the Red Devils matched Lyon on the day, but none found the back of the net.

Freshman Eli Guyton (Carbondale, Ill./Carbondale) recorded a pair of shots on goal for EC, while Khalil Alleyne (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Fatima College/Lincoln), Tyler Russow (Streator, Ill./Streator/Illinois Valley Community College), Troy Aries (Cape Town, South Africa/Wynberg) and Jake Edmondson (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) each had one.

Saturday was the first-ever matchup between Eureka and new St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Lyon.

Lyon is now tied with Fontbonne for most wins in SLIAC play.

The Red Devils (4-6-3, 2-2-1 SLIAC) will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Greenville (6-6-3, 2-1-3 SLIAC) for a 5 p.m.
