EUREKA – The Eureka men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference challenge against Fontbonne at McKinzie Field on Wednesday.

It was the Red Devils' first loss in SLIAC play and the Griffins' fifth straight conference win.

Eureka matched the Griffins' intensity for much of the night, but the visitors took an early lead after converting on a set piece and extended it to a two-goal lead before halftime. Tim Jurado made it 1-0 in the 10th minute and Brandon O'Dell put away the second goal after slipping past the defense in the 41st.

The Red Devils got on the board with a goal off a penalty kick by Tyler Russow (Streator, Ill./Streator/Illinois Valley Community College) in the 82nd minute. They opened the game up and created a lot of opportunities in the second half. The Griffins, however, always found a way to deflect and divert their shots out of trouble.

In the 83rd minute, Brandon O'Dell put away the final goal of the night after Nico Mormino played a long, driven ball to the top of the 18-yard box. O'Dell settled it off his chest and volleyed it past the keeper to make it 3-1.

Eureka finished with 18 shots to Fontbonne's 10, but the teams had nearly the same amount of shots on goal, with the Griffins recording six and the Red Devils five.

On Saturday, the Red Devils (4-5-3, 2-1-1 SLIAC) will look to bounce back as they host Lyon (6-5-1, 3-1-1) bright and early for Homecoming. Kickoff at McKinzie Field is set for 8 a.m.
